Marijn is a performer and educator, born in the Netherlands. Since a young age, he has had an interest in different musical styles and instruments. He started playing the violin at the age of six, and the piano at the age of ten. Besides his classical education, a Bachelors degree at Utrecht Conservatory, Marijn also earned a Masters degree in Jazz Performance at the University of North Texas.
As an educator, Marijn strives to be versatile, adaptive and flexible, to encourage students to feel safe and curious. He believes that music connects people at a deep level and that playing together elevates the growth of each students. As a violinist, Marijn has shared the stage with the Metropole Orchestra, Kurt Elling, The Temptations and Jose James. Besides performing on violin, he toured, composed and recorded as a pianist for his band 7even Bridges and was accompanist for The Voice Kids winner Laura van Kaam.
Marijn now plays with different symphony orchestras around the area and performs regularly with his group String Theory Manouche, a gypsy jazz band in DFW. He currently serves as Program Director for the Youth Jazz International organization, where classically trained kids experience a taste of jazz music and improvisation. Marijn is passionate about sharing music with others and is excited to work with the students at Lone Star Music Academy!
