Sean Torres is a multi-faceted guitarist based out of Dallas Texas and has built a career off of performing and recording. Sean’s mind and skillsets are built around the love of serving music and performance as a whole. With this approach, he has been able to cultivate a diverse palette of styles when it comes to his sound.

Raised in Austin Texas, Sean began his music journey from a very early age figuring out the guitar on his own. Being a native of Austin, Sean couldn’t help but be mesmerized by the blues and rock and roll scene the city was brewing. Sean became as disciplined as he could to be the best blues guitarist he could be at a young age. But after a few years of chasing that sound, Sean began to yearn for a more harmonic complexity; thus being introduced to jazz. Sean began to learn as much as he could about the jazz language in his school jazz band, as a saxophonist, and would take all of the info he learned on the horn and apply it to the guitar. Later he would go on to study jazz guitar at the University of North Texas. Upon finishing his schooling, to him, it felt that the journey had just begun. Sean continued to further his studies by seeking out local musicians learning all of the finest arts Dallas Texas has to offer: Jazz, Gospel, R&B, Rock, and tons more. The city of Dallas really values a musician who can play multiple genres, which was a perfect excuse for Sean to pursue many different musical approaches. Now Sean performs regularly around the DFW scene wearing many hats, playing many genres, sometimes as a leader, sometimes as a sideman. The journey continues!

As far as teaching approach, Sean is a big believer in ear training. Having been self-taught himself, Sean had to rely on his ear at an early age to feed his musical curiosity and ambition. This means hearing music and knowing how to create on your instrument without someone teaching you or a piece of sheet music to guide you. Your ear is your compass, and every musician should strive to enhance it to its highest ability. Being trained through the University, Sean carries all the expected skills of sight reading, preparation, transcription, composition, gear maintenance, and punctuality, but he gives the students the tools they need to teach themselves in the long run.
