Alex McKamie is a highly sought-after multi-instrumentalist, audio engineer and educator, with over 15 years of teaching and performance experience. Born into a musical family (both of his parents serve on the music faculty at Truman State University in Kirksville), he showed interest in many different musical instruments and start learning them rapidly. He is a very talented multi-instrumentalist who feels at home with performing in various string instruments such as guitar, bass, piano as well violin and viola.

Alex McKamie has played electric guitar and bass since childhood, studying with many experienced gig musicians and playing in numerous bands, all while pursuing professional degrees in classical music. He has cultivated an educational music channel on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/Alex63501) focusing on creating tablature and teaching basic electric bass/guitar techniques. His fusion of classical technique with popular music makes him a versatile teacher, able to teach a wide variety of genres (pop, rock, metal, classical, soul, funk, folk, and jazz).

Mr. McKamie is also an experienced audio engineer, specializing in signal processing and audio reinforcement (guitar effects and PA use). He currently works for the University of North Texas Audio Reinforcement Department as the assistant director. Some of the most recent artists he has worked with include Scott Tixier, Please Please Please, Mulanix Street Orchestra, The Delicate Pelicans, The Dogscribes, and No Such Luck.

Aside from teaching at Lone Star Music Academy, performing around the DFW area, Mr. McKamie recently accepted the position of Adjunct Professor at Texas Woman’s University in the Fall of 2021.

Mr. McKamie welcomes students of all ages and levels in his studio. His outgoing personality coupled with his passion and extensive knowledge about music invigorate his students to learn from him. His teaching philosophy revolves around acknowledging that every student is different, and thus each requires a unique, individualized approach. Being able to identify and praise the good qualities in a student's playing gives encouragement and motivation to improve upon the qualities that are not yet as developed.
